I purchase a 3×3 tarp to use in my bag, I saw it also came in 4×4 and had to try.
First of all, when rolled up is not very much bigger than 3×3, but unfurled it is massive.
Second, tarp configurations are definitely different. The pyramid setup is not able to be a trekking pole (not long enough). But all other configurations are fine.
I can not stress enough about the size of this thing, I would wager you could hold a party under it.

Fantastic product, can do so many things with it, really limited only by imagination. I used mine in pretty harsh windy, stormy weather but it had no problems despite I didn’t go easy on it. It has a variety of connecting points seemingly just about anywhere you could ever need, well designed and thought out. It is well treated so keeps the water out and dries quickly. Packs down light and compact. It comes with a couple of short guy lines and a few pegs, which aren’t great. I’d definitely recommend adding decent ones to your pack.

This is my second dd tarp, ( had an XL stolen) replaced it with another large type tarp (not dd).good but not dd quality. When turned correctly you can use tieouts to expand a-frame sides. Very roomy. Not Defender tough but tough and much lighter. It is a square tarp ,so think 10×10 on steroids when configuring. Do not think twice if you want space to sleep or chores in wet weather (snowed my second use) . Packs small enough, plenty of tieouts… Just a great piece of kit.
