   I haven’t had the chance to get out in the woods with this tarp yet. I’ll update this review when I do. But for now, this is what you should know: • At 2.50 lbs. (exactly…measured with the cover/sack), this tarp is a little heavier than other/competitor tarps, though I think that this is due to quality/added features. Specifically: – The extra strapping (both on the reinforced stitched perimeter/stake loops, the ridgeline loops/grommets). Also note that many tarps (including hammock rain-flys) don’t have ridgeline loops/grommets, only perimeter grommets/loops. – The quality reflective back-coating. It’s slightly rubbery, so I’m assuming that is won’t flake off in the folds/creases, or over time in general, like lesser quality tarps. And in theory at least, it should be warmer on colder nights, especially with a fire in front of it (assuming reflective configuration)…or double as an emergency blanket in a pinch. • 70D rip-stop seems to provide good durability, and I’m not sure how it could be lighter without sacrificing quality/durability (Dyneema/cuben-fiber notwithstanding…if you can afford to pay tons for a tarp…and no reflective coating). Even with the heavier weight, this tarp is still lighter that most backpacking tents. And even so if you add a pound for a ground tarp/sleeping mat to put under it…which you’d likely also do to protect the tent floor of a lightweight (expensive) tent anyway. • The ridgeline strap with mounts/grommets is a nice feature, though somewhat expected for this tier of tarps. • I think that 10’ tarps are perfect for versatility and adequate space when used for shelter. • There are no stakes or guy lines included. For me, this is not a big issue, 550 cord and stakes are generally cheap, but noting it accordingly. Further, the stakes and lines typically provided with tarps are of a “basically adequate” quality anyway. The only improvement suggestion I have with this tarp is to add reinforcement patches/stitching under/around the perimeter and ridgeline loop/grommet points; though the corners do have a single stitched diagonal reinforcement/patch. To explain, I can see where the tarp is very strong against stresses in-line with the ridgeline strap, but stresses perpendicular to the strap (or perimeter loops) could reveal weak/tear points. Time will tell, and to be fair, this is on-par with most competitors. And, if I ever see any strains/stretching at these points, I’ll probably just glue some nylon repair patches under the loop/grommet points for added strength…easy mod. Bottom Line: This is a quality bush-craft/backpacking tarp that should provide years of service.

   Then look no further Texas bushcraft makes extremely high quality gear that doesn’t break the bank. Im in the north east on the foothill of the Appalachian Mtns and when it’s wet season I don’t worry at all with my gear getting wet or myself when sleeping outside for work. Their is more than enough tarp to cover two people’s gear and keep yourself dry. The best thing I’d have to say is how light this product is because ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain in my field. I will buy again if needed.

   I got this because the unique design hit all my needs, and it worked great. It was a perfect idea to make the inside reflective. I was looking for a better way of using the camp fire heat more efficiently in colder times. I used to use a reflective blanket on the backside of my fire to provide more heat coming inside my shelter. It worked, but I still wanted more if possible. This does it. I took it out the next day I got it. Outside temp was 2 degrees Fahrenheit. I set this tarp up in a plow point with a fire about 4 feet away. Using an outdoor thermometer, it got up to 78. Perfect!

   Spent a week living out of this tarp in the desert. Packs up tight and dry bag had room for stakes and a small ground tarp too without being cumbersome. It kept me out of the sun with minimal tie down points, held up during very tough wind. But because of its size it can tend to become a sail. That’s its only reason I don’t say 5 stars, it didn’t play well with changing wind conditions. Kept out hail and severe thunderstorms. Worth the money for sure and plan on seeing what fun we’ll have together. Would buy again

   Love the solid ridge line with multiple tire outs making it very versatile. Weight is appropriate for size and seems to be very waterproof. Made quite a few different shelters with it at our Trail Life Troop event.

   Took the tarp on a 7 day trip to use as a rainfly for my hammock had it setup in an A frame formation at night and opened it up on one side during the day . Very rugged a little heavy with good stitching. Temp varried from 80°F to 19°F and had 3 days of rain not storms just some fairly steady rain. Had 0 leaks and no noticeable condinsation buildup stayed nice and taught the whole time it pretty much stretched out the first night and didn’t move after. The bag is also high quality tho i dont know if it will go back in the bag without some high quality rolling and folding, mine went in a compression bag with my other shelter items, I just used mine to hold my stuff on a line above my hammock. The reflective layer works i wouldn’t compare it to Mylar but it does indeed reflect the heat of a campfire back at you. Its size is good the 10×10 is very useful. I would highly recommend this to anyone after a very solid strong tarp who didn’t care as much about the weight.

   This is an awesome tarp. The tarp is rectangular, so the given 10 x 10 should be checked, because the length is longer than the width. 10 x 10 would make it square. But I cannot fault it. It is light, spark proof, water proof, and an awesome tarp all round. I have measured this tarp. Width is 2.86 metres, Length is 4.28 metres.

   Been set up in the tent configuration for three nights now. Hasn’t moved. I slept in it the past two nights in my yard and had precipitation last night and stayed completely dry. Would have worked better had I staked out every point but at home and a test run. If set up as the tent I’d carry at least 8 stakes. Ten if you want to make more space. Seemed to retain heat, just do not know how much the reflective coating actually helps. All in all seems to be a great buy. Night 4 On my fourth night the center tie off loop threading ripped. I feel if the loop looped back into itself instead of putting pressure on the first stitches of the loop it would not have came unthreaded. I’m going to attempt to repair the loop to where it’s a big loop instead of it being folded over to create a loop. Hopefully the pictures I took help to explain. I’ll update the picture once I’ve sewn in a big loop to where it will pull on all the stitching instead of the first set of stitches. I lowered from 5 to 3. I will still highly recommend.

    This review: totally unpaid.

    I got this tarp several camping trips ago. I had a 20F sleeping bag, and was still a bit chilly (without the tarp mind you). The night before. The next night, I camped on a ridge top and it snowed. I had the tarp in an open faced triangle configuration, and I was very comfortable. I am guessing that is due to the coating on it. Not sure what all the impact was, but I did have a fire burning nearby (that gradually went out as snow came down). I know the coating on the tarp is supposed to reflect heat so the combo tarp + nearby heat may have done the trick.

    I have light weight poncho tarps that are 1lb or less, yet I keep gravitating back to this tarp. While it is considerably heavier, at ~2lbs, the large size and the extra warmth feel like a luxury.

    Would love it if they had some slightly smaller sizes for the more weight conscious campers.

    I’m using this as a different purpose than a traditional tarp used over a campsite. I am using it to shield the sun, and I do appreciate the fact that it does insulate while also being a thin barrier that is very portable. At first I was skeptical that I would not really be a fan of the color because online it looked like it was more army green and when I got it, it was a pleasant olive green, and that mattered where I was using it. I think if you’re looking for a lightweight insulated tarp, that is very durable definitely go with this one
