   bought and tried to use this last weekend. placed them under our standard 4 person tents and they were definitely too small. however, they were still useful when pulled out in front of the entrance to keep shoes on and feet clean.

   I love this tarp. I ordered a 2 person tent and footprint tarp from another manufacturer that was listed as whatcampingtent.com’s #1 seller. The tent didn’t work out so I returned both. When I picked the footprint tarp up to pack it up, I could see light through very tiny pin holes. (Note: I had the tent set up in my yard) I bought a 4 person Coleman tent and this tarp was a few dollars cheaper than the “#1 seller” so I got it. I have used it many times in the backwoods, and you definitely can’t see light through it. The material is thin but is waterproof and strong enough to protect the bottom of your tent. The straps are doubled up material and everything is double stitched. It comes with a nice storage bag and is thin enough to store in my tent bag. The ONLY con to the tarp is the eyelets are 5/16″-3/8″ in diameter, which is not large enough to use heavy duty tent stakes with. I bought a 1/2″ eyelet/ grommet kit and changed them. I would highly recommend footprint tarps from this company.

   This tarp will make a good ground tarp. The tie-outs at the corners are well-stitched and reinforced. Please note however that to make a big square tarp the manufacturer joins two pieces. If you plan to use this as an emergency shelter, there are only four options due to the tie-outs are only at the corners. This is why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. I will be taking this in my day pack as I know that I can rig up a sun or rain cover, use it as a ground tarp when I have lunch and in a pinch, set up a shelter with it.

   I have hiked and backpacked throughout the United States and Canada. I am always looking for hiking gear. I saw this footprint and asked whatcampingtent.com to review it. In backpacking the term footprint refers to a barrier (generally a waterproof material) that you place under your tent. There are 4 sizes of footprints you can order on this website. I ordered the largest one, which is 7 feet 5 inches long and 7 feet 1 inch wide. I did not order it to be used as a footprint because I use a much lighter material: generally a very thin plastic tarp. This weighs 13.6 ounces with the carry bag and 13.2 without it. I can make a lightweight footprint out of plastic that weighs less than half this weight. Had I wanted a footprint for my tents I would have ordered the 86 X 59-inch footprint. It weighs 9.8 ounces, which isn’t bad for a footprint. The reason I ordered the largest is because I will use it for much more than a footprint. This footprint is made out of a thin waterproof material. It has 4 grommets: one on each corner. The material is pretty strong. I put additional 4 grommets on it, and it was hard to tear the fabric. I have no doubts that it will hold up in the wind and rain. You might ask, what am I going to use it for? My answer is a lot of things in the wilderness. I, or someone in my group, have always packed a waterproof rectangular waterproof cover for the rain. You can attach it to trees, and you have yourself a nice little eating area. You can put it over your tent, and it gives you extra protection. If something happens to your tent you can make a small tent or cover your damaged tent. If someone gets hurt, you can protect the person from the elements. If you get caught outside in a sudden rainstorm without your rain gear, you can put this over your body and stay dry. There are just so many things you can use this for. I am not a survivalist but if I was caught in a wilderness area and couldn’t go home right away, I could survive with this footprint. Whenever you put on a daypack or a backpack you should always ask yourself is the weight of the gear worth carrying it. For this footprint my answer is yes. In addition, to my first aid kit, whistle, flashlight, compass, and several other essential things, I will add this footprint to my pack.

    Use this footprint under my Oztent RV3. Works well by insulating the tent a little more and keeping the tent bottom from getting damaged. Used this little footprint as a shield for my tent, I’d rather buy this again than having to ship the tent in for repairs. So far this footprint survived the winter and some atmospheric rivers. I’ll put it through heavy use come this summer and do a long term review after.

    This item is a joke. It says it repels water, but yet in the same token, my blankets were soaked from the ground being wet. If you get it, I would get two of them, lay one down, put a tarp on top of it and lay another one down you might actually get a dry tent and keep your blankets dry at the same time. Oh don’t forget the gravel and the level to make this this Matt that goes underneath the tent a lot better other than that I wouldn’t waste my money again, not on this mat
