   Set this up in my back yard despite having no trees. Wanted to see how easy it was to setup. I had a couple old extension poles which worked well for the ends. Pros – lightweight and easy to setup – screen rolls up easily to use as a tarp or hammock cover – seams stitching appears well done – zippers work well – guide ropes came attached with rubber holders – guide rope tensioners are a nice plus Cons – stuff sack is too small. Will need to get a bigger stuff sack – stakes are pretty cheap and bend easily. Will be upgrading the stakes – this may not be a cool n for some, but the side walls could be about 6 inches taller. I’m 6 foot and if I hung it much higher, there would be gaps at the bottom Overall a great deal. This will definitely be in my camping gear. 07-20-2024 – Upgraded to 5 stars after using the on a 21 day northern MN canoe trip. Bugs were swarming. We set this screen house up at every campsite. It goes up quickly and was big enough to protect all our gear from the weather, we had lots of rain. We cooked in the shelter. Three way zippers worked without issue. This was a true test and it held up great in heavy winds, down pouring rain, and swarming mosquitoes. I still stand by my cons as listed on the original review, but they would simply be nice to have upgrades to an already great piece of camping gear.

   Happy with this product. I’ve used Nemo bugouts in the past and they are great too but just cost a bit more than I wanted. I’ve taken this on 3 BWCA trips so far and have been happy with it. Our last trip had plenty of wind, rain, and bugs and we had four adults sitting comfortably inside staying dry. Only downside is it needs a few more tie out points to help the walls hold tighter in the wind. Use a little extra paracord and that solves the problem. To get it standing as tall as it’s made you’ll need to stand on a log, barrel, buddy, or something to get you up a few more feet. Overall I’d recommend this for canoe camping or car camping trips. A tad big/heavy for backpacking trips.

   This fits over an 8′ picnic table. I squeezed a folding chair, but not really practical. I have a shorter table that is not as wide that I could also add chairs to, so I imagine that is what I will be doing. You can stake out the side walls to the ground, and a skirt lays flat to the ground (not sure how well this will work in the wind). I tried different poles, the ones pictured were 6′ tall, this item says it has a peak height of 6.5′ but I don’t have poles of this height, at least not with a point that would go into a grommet. Not sure the pocket inside the tarp are strong enough for my slightly higher poles, and once that poles slipped out of the pocket onto the netting (so won’t try that again). 6′ seemed good for a picnic table, anyway. I was able to put this back in the stuff sack, but had to re-roll it, as I wasn’t paying enough attention the first time. I wonder if one should put up the screening before taking it down? I dropped this onto the picnic table and folded the netting into the center, and then fold the solid tarp into the center which happened to make it just right for the stuff sack. I folded the ends in, then folded the tarp from the end, then rolled up. I put it up without the table to get used to it. then dropped over the table and put the poles I decided worked best again. I think the table kept the pole from falling to the side. A tarp I have you stake out the 2 front sides which also kept the pole from falling, but you would have to get the length of the line fairly accurate. Then just walk to the other end keeping the Ridgeline taut, and when you reach the other end insert the other pole and keeping it taut by its guy line which you stakeout. Then stakeout the rest. I think this might work with this tarp, staking out the sides first, before staking out the ONE guy line for the pole, and like the other tarp keep it taut while walking back to put the other pole in etc.. Of course trees will be. much easier. I am not used to the tensioners on the cord so I might replace them, and the black cord I often trip on, surprised how much the flash light light it up. Might replace it too. Finally the rubber band to hold the rolled up cords is a good idea just not sure how long that will last. I might use an “S” hook to attach the line to tarp, so I can store these without fiddling with the rubber band. (if you just fold up the tarp with loose lines, they will become tangled for a real mess. I might use this by itself , or under one of my car-camping tarps, the larger one could cover this and my tent. One might get bitten a few times while putting this up as it took awhile at least the first time. Most places I camp the bugs are light and take awhile to gather if at all. This will be nice if hanging out for awhile, not wanting to retreat into my backpacking tent etc. I wouldn’t take this backpacking. Surprised that this works in Canadian canoe-camping, 50 years ago we had canvas tents with netting with a zipper down the center and snaps to connect to the floor. We put all our extra clothes over that and the bugs still got in. But I believe the other users which might open up sleeping under this, time will tell. Not sure about rain either if you are on the ground.

   At first they are a bit awkward to set up by yourself. Once you get the hang of it, it works well, both using nearby trees or poles for the set up. The first thing to change are the black corner ropes. I kept stumbling on them. I replaced with high vis kind. Much better. Also the front and back ropes are a bit on the short side, and could use more length to reach further trees. Loved the height (I am 5′ 8″) and kept the abundant bugs away from me. Perfect for canoeing.
