The basecamp straight out of the box just didn’t open up. Figured we got a defective one and considering the price and that we live in Hawaii it just wasn’t worth the hassle. My husband bought the pacific breeze so we sent the basecamp back. Btw the pacific breeze is awesome! When you look at the reviews the basecamp and family basecamp are lumped together so I don’t think the stars for the family basecamp are accurate.

This seems to work really well, but when I bought it it arrived with a broken clip. When I called whatcampingtent.com they wouldn’t issue a replacement – I got it on sale. So now I have an expensive and broken piece of equipment. The clip attaches the floor mat to the tent so it covers a large area of the ground.

Arrived damaged, not easy to put up or take down like is advertised. Very stiff poles. Seller communication poor

Absolutely love this family beach tent. Definitely a must have if beach is important to your family.

Customer service is only open from 8-5 m-f so if you have a normal job, good luck getting a hold of someone. The tent does not set up like it does in the video. It takes 10 minutes and is incredibly fragile. If there is any wind, it blows over. The sand mat is great but this is a product that just doesn’t do the things it says it does.

Bought this for our beach trip this year. Didn’t know what to expect. Let me just tell you it took less than five minutes to set it up, pin it down, and be sitting down inside it the first time we tried. Packing it up was about the same amount of time. Each time we set it up it took less and less time, to the point where we would have the tent setup before our friends got their two chairs and blanket laid out. This is an amazing tent. It’s built better than anything else you can take to the beach and it’s easy to pack up. We love that you can put all sides down completely, or with only the mesh up, or fully closed off. It is about the same weight as some of the umbrellas I’ve seen, and it comes in a nice water-resistant case, so it’s easy to carry. Also, it’s tall enough internally where you can set up your beach chairs and sit in the tent for shade. It’s on the expensive side, yes, but this thing will be coming on all of our beach trips going forward, and it will most definitely outlast the life of 4-5+ umbrellas (and it’s nowhere near as dangerous as having a large metal spike holding a parachute – aka umbrella – down when it gets windy out!).

May be easy to set up in the grass but on a beach, with wind- not any easier than standard beach tent. Because it has 3 sides that don’t fully open it creates minimal shade (maybe covers one person sideways for most of the day). It’s also so much hotter than an open sided tent even with vented sides open. Overall just makes me feel claustrophobic and hot. Honestly an umbrella gives as much shade and you can actually enjoy the beach.
