I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on a beach tent I'm not going to use very often, since the closest beach to me is 3 hours away. My wife is Puerto Rican and I'm white. I need shade. This product works. It's big enough she, our 6 year old son, and myself get in to eat and you can keep all your stuff inside to keep it out the sun. It takes less than 5 minutes to set up and stores away very compact. I highly recommend.
It's easy to set up and has several configurations for airflow. Really wish it was more water resistant or came with a rain fly. It will withstand a few minutes of light mist but it will seep through and pool heavily in the corners.
In the package you get the nine aluminum ground stakes as well as a carrying case. When I'm at the beach, it is slightly stressful for me when it gets windy because I worry about my shade structure or umbrella blowing over. That concern can finally be put to rest with these stakes. The most important thing that you need to know is that when I screw them all the way into the sand, and attach a rope to them, I can pull with all of my might and am not able to pull them out of the ground. That means that even a heavy wind will not send my shade structure flying across the beach. The stakes are the size of nine inch nails and as such are a formidable size. They are not terribly heavy since they are cast out of aluminum, but they are sturdy. When you are screwing them into the sand, it becomes more difficult toward the bottom. I really like how you can use one of the other stakes (or a nearby stick) as a crossbar to help with the final twists. The grommet hole is quite large and you can easily fit a lot of different sized ropes in it. I opted to get the nine stake kit, and together they all barely fit in the carrying case. That doesn't bother me, because I will end up putting two of these in my umbrella bag and the rest in my tent bag. Overall I'm very pleased with this product as it solves a big problem for me. The cost is reasonable, and if well cared for, they should last for a very long time.
This awning includes extras that others don't. It includes a strip light, floor, and roof. The arms are piston powered and very sturdy, yet easy to close. They will open up as soon as the velcro is released. The mounting brackets are versatile with multiple options for different racks. I am very pleased with the quality of this awning.
I got this for a solo beach trip and it was absolutely perfect! I forgot to time the setup, but it was worth whatever time it took me to do. I read the instructions at home and implementation was seemlesss. Follow the instructions. The location of the shade changed throughout the day, but was always there and the last few hours was full shade. Worth the investment. Very sturdy. I sat my chair in the sun so I could warm up from the shade as needed 🤯😃
*Update after 2 years* Tent still holds up nicely. Camped once in the rain and there was zero leak inside the tent. For the price it’s already well worth it. *Original review* Bought this tent in early 2023 and has since taken it on 8 camping trip and it held up great. It is easier to set up with 2 people and took is less than 10 minutes. On one of the trip it rained but the tent kept us inside. It is well ventilated. All the zippers & tent poles function great. We got the 4 people tent. With 2 adults and 2 small dogs sleeping inside, there’s still plenty of room to put our stuffs in the tent. Inner pockets are useful to keep our phones, keys, and flashlight easily accessible. As a beginner tent, this really is the best option.
I find it funny that they only want you to fill the bag 80% full, so you're not really getting a "5 gallon" shower. I understand stand why though because as soon as i picked up the 80% full bag the strap broke instantly. I also would not recommed using the cheap plastic hook and cheesy string to hand the bag, get a real hook and real rope. I'm 5'9" and i almost reach the top so I'll have to stoop down to wash my hair so not for tall people by any means
I have used kelty products in the past and was always happy with what I'd purchased. But i can confidently say this tent is the worst item I have ever had. FIRST time I used it one of the poles snapped the FIRST night. On top of that they want you to pay to ship the broken pole to them which then can take up to 40 days to get back to you. I decided to duck tape it and try to make do. SECOND time I used it the other pole broke the FIRST night. I am beyond disappointed. Kelty refuses to give a refund or pay for shipping their terrible product back for repair. I will not be purchasing anything from Kelty ever again. Sad to see these once quality products become cheap and unreliable. Do not buy this tent you will regret it.
I'm very happy with this. It is easy to set up. It comes with a handy shovel and a roomy carry bag. Its not too bulky to carry. It is able to withstand the strong ocean breeze.
I bought this tent as a more compact alretative and weight saver for my search and rescue load out, and it works perfectly. Since I already have trekking poles with me, no sense carrying the extra weight of tent poles with me. The other benefit is the space saved by not having the tent poles. After reading some of the reviews, i just went ahead and used seam sealer and aerosol waterproofing on the hole thing right out of the box. Used it on our annual SAR overnight training and it survived thunderstorms and beating down rain. Not a single drop in the tent. Had no issues with condensation either, and it was a very humid day between the storms.
Good for the price, heavy duty and water proof. The only issue I had was the stove jack was a little too small, and the way the jack flap cover rolled up made it resting on the chimney and burnt the cover all up. I tryed to put aluminum foil between them but after a week it still burnt the cover part. But other then the stove jack could be bigger, it's a good and easy tent. And double check all parts are there I was missing the corner top for the door and improvised to make it work.
This was an excellent buy. I purchased this tent for a backyard camp that I set up in the backyard for my nephew and GodKids. It is supper large, we were all able to stand in the tent, there was plenty of space for everyone. We love the pockets on the inside of the tent. There are pieces for dividing into three rooms for privacy; we did not use them but it is available and I believe would work great. At first, we struggled to put the tent up but later realized that the instruction sheet was written on the storage bag itself. Super easy with those instructions. It was easy to put up, however, I was looking for a separate instructions sheet. As you can see in one of the pictures we had unexpected hail and wind storm. The tent stayed dry and held up during the storm. Great buy. I recommend.
My idea when ordering this tarp was to use it as a rainfly over my hammock when hammock camping. The fact that there are only 8 tiedown loops around the edge and none in the middle was not a problem for me. Unfortunately, even though it is seam taped and looks to be fairly waterproof (I didnt test it in the rain), the material seems kind of fragile and I think it might crack and degrade before too long. I say crack because the silver backing looks just painted on, not like it's the color of the fabric. Also it is not very compact, the bag it comes with has handles and is 19x8 inches and weighs just under 2 pounds. This would increase the size and weight of my hammock camping setup substantially. On the plus side, the reflective silver coating will tend to keep you heat in a bit, especially if you set it up as a ground shelter instead of a rainfly, however the tie out loops are not sew on very well and might rip out unless you reinforce them. I do like it as a tarp to keep in the car for emergencies, but it is not what I expected in size or weight for hammock camping, and quality is so-so. UPDATE AFTER USING IT IN THE FIELD: I took this tarp hammock camping and I was very surprised, I take back everything I said before. The corner loops are very solidly sewn on, and 2 of them provide aluminum tension spreaders to which you attach your ridgelines. Nice. I said the bag was too big, but if you take the time to fold it properly it packs down quite small. The bag is just oversized and can easily accomodate my hammock and straps to keep things together. The material seems good and none of the silver side flaked off. Nice tarp, quite impressed.
I was super excited to get this as a hate sleeping on ground level. I have to be higher up. I am 5’6 and cannot even lay down without my legs bent. I’m not sure how two adults are meant to fit in this.
Product: 5 Person SUV Tent Brand: ShinHye I’ve struggled with this tent. First, I waded through yards of fabric contained in the carry bag, but couldn’t find instructions on how to set up the tent. In the process of searching through the mass, I managed to get whacked in the nose hard by one of the cables. After a few hours, I did finally find set up instructions online halfway down the whatcampingtent.com product page. I feel this information should have been packaged with the tent. The floor tarp is sewn directly to the bottom of the tent. They can’t be taken apart. This feels inflexible to me and wasn’t what I expected. The bottom of the tent may get the most wear and tear, and need to be replaced first. It also makes the tent harder to set up and take down, I believe. The tent fabric on both floors and walls is lightweight. I have a nice 4-6 person tent that I purchased from whatcampingtent.com for $599. Although this ShinHye tent was priced at $249 when I ordered it, the other tent is so much nicer that I feel it was well worth a few hundred dollars more.
