Pleasantly surprised with quality of tarp and poles, even held up to 40mph gusts. You do need to know how to orient and set up a tarp to withstand heavy winds but this set up passed with flying colors. Get new stakes though as the provided ones are rather weak.
I was looking for a tent that could fit myself, husband and our two dogs comfortably. This tent worked out perfectly. We fit a queen size are mattress, a large dog bed, a small side table, a duffle bag and a small back pack and still had room to move around. I love how much of this tent is mesh. You can stargaze out the top and the side windows are perfect height for watching the campfire. Putting up the tent was easy for my husband and I — Could be a bit more challenging for one person but totally doable. We rigged hooks on our platform to easily attach the leads to so we will have an even easier set up each time we use it now. All items on the listing were in the bag. We did not set up the canvas fly. I wanted to leave the roof open to see the stairs-unfortunatly we did get some unexpected rain. The tent itself is made of typical tent material and not waterproof. I will update my review when we test out the canopy in the rain. Only thing I can say contradictory to the listing is that I would consider this tent 3 season- I can't see using it in the winter unless you live somewhere with very mild winters. We have used this tent twice so far and enjoy it's design and functionality. We were also able to fit everything back into the provided tent bag which I was happy about. Glad I took a chance on this tent with limited reviews and wanted to write this review to help you decide as well. Happy Camping!
It’s my first tent with a more expensive price-tag. I have some issues with the pegs which come with the tent but that’s no big deal coz we ought to use our separate set of pegs with every tent when camping anyway. Another thing is when the porch is set up, it doesn’t cover that much of a space and water will drop from both sides of that canopy into sitting area when it rains. But I guess that is common with a tent of this type. Other than that, it’s perfect! It’s a very, very nice tent and worth every penny it asks for.
As I researched tarp and tent poles, I found a lot of bad or less than stellar reviews from quite a few folks stating that many brands weren’t up to the task. While I can’t speak for all brands, I can tell you that the Green Elephant poles perform exactly as they are intended to perform. I design and build my own awnings for overlanding rigs and I‘m quite fussy when it comes to the quality of the items I use to complete my projects. Green Elephant poles will always be one of the manufacturers I use for my projects. I love these poles! I don’t know what some folks expect from their tent and tarps poles but I suspect that some of the negative reviews may be due to misapplication - but who knows. Camp awnings and tarps are NOT meant to withstand hurricane force winds or extremely heavy rains, so I don’t know of any poles that are going to satisfy the camper who expects that. That said... I highly recommend Green Elephant poles and will be ordering more from them in the future. The finish is good. The operation is smooth and the locking mechanism performs with no effort and stays put. The nicest surprise was the three sections that when collapsed, resulted in a nice small package for stowing. The removable rubber tip is also a plus, allowing you to use the poles as a center support without puncturing a hole in your awning or tarp. It also helps lock the pole onto the tarp. Love these poles.
Quick and easy to set up. We bought it for shade but ended up raining our whole vacation and it worked great for keeping us dry.
I bought this as a last minute item for a 3 day trip to a national park. Weather was forecasted to rain so this provided cover over our table. The physical part of the tarp is nice. Its big and looks built well for the price and provided plenty of cover over the table. It rained cats and dogs, was super windy, and with this thing staked down properly it didn't move an inch and kept everything bone dry. The poles, stakes, and ropes are absolute garbage. Its a great idea to have them fold down to small size but it doesn't provide enough height to stand under for the length of the tarp. The tent stakes are tiny and useless, they don't have a great hold when pushed in so go to a big box store and get yourself a100 feet of nylon paracord and some spikes, then you have a decent tarp for under $100. Thats what I did ahead of time and it worked great. Also, the zipper came off the bag after one use and was a throw away as well. I plan to buy some taller poles for this tarp and get some good use out of it. with a little modification it is quite nice.
This tent works great as a shower, changing room, or for that unmentionable other need. The large version is a good size for a bigger or tall person; but not ideal for two medium size folks trying to conserve water. The hook on the inside at the top of the tent is a great place for a carabiner mounted light, however it did not hold or secure our shower head. Set up time is minimal, maybe 5+ minutes; depending on whether you want to stake yours down. Breakdown is just as simple or intricate, depending on your glass of water. If you choose to stake yours down, setup or assess where you will be mounting your shower system and be mindful that you have the neccesary slack in your shower head hose. Post camp clean up was determined to be easier by setting it up at home and hosing it off. We opted not to use the rainfly due to the gorgeous sky views, however this created an additional place for firewood ash to gather resulting in a more thorough cleaning. A general notion to keep in mind if you are camping in a forest that has been under drought conditions for a prolonged period of time, SPIDERS! Oh they love to climb up this water spout of a tent, for sure!
This is promoted as a screenhouse, and it does that job well. I especially like the 12 x 10 size, which fits campground picnic tables. My camping adventures will be bug free. This was fairly easy to set up. I did not set up before our trip and was caught in the rain trying to set this up (my bad!). Obviously, with any outdoor equipment, it is a good idea to set it up before it is critical, so you can understand it first. I didn't do this. But even in the rain I was able to figure this out and get it set up. It is a complete tarp/pole system that unfolds. I was able to figure it out, but I can understand why other people may get frustrated. NOTE: I ASSuMEd that this would also be weather resistant. It was not. We had a lot of rain on our camping trip, and the rain seeped through the nylon roof and dripped, and the slanted screen sides spattered drops from trees. So this would be fine for a passing shower. But for sustained rain it won't keep the table beneath dry. I think I will need a separate tarp above the screenhouse. If you want something that is both a screenhouse AND a weather/storm tarp, you may want to look elsewhere. In the end , this product worked well, as advertised. Be aware of what is advertised.
Works great. Perfect for the beach and very spacious. Very easy to assemble, and I did not find it difficult to get everything back in the bag.
Took these out for the first time set them up. Bottom tensioner in both poles broke. Now they are half the height and won’t collapse.
This is my third Kelty backpacking tent, the last one was a two man tent from 2018, this time I got the 3 man. It accommodates myself, my teenage son, and all of our gear, with room to spare. Love the star gaze mode, the color coding that makes matching up the rights ends a breeze, and the quick clip-on setup. It's not ultralight by any means, but I split up the 5.3 lbs between my pack and my son's, very manageable! Bonus that it comes with a footprint as well.
I recently planned a family vacation to Saint Simons Island in the Georgia’s Golden Isles. It was a trip where the whole family was invited in a big beach house on East Beach. I realized quickly that I was ill prepared for a big group of family on the beach and immediately decided I needed to find a good tent to help create some sun protection and coverage. I knew I wanted something that was large enough for a total of 6 people to sit under, I wanted something that had a good SPF coverage and was easy to tote and easy to assemble! This tent hit all of that and more! Super easy to set up, very lightweight and a high quality, it was absolutely the best purchase we made for the whole trip! We have since purchased a condo in SSI and have now used this tent multiple times! Still not disappointed! And let me add that it is a great price! Great value and undoubtedly a tent that will get tons of use! Five stars across the board!
As expected. Fits deck great and room inside for table with four chairs. Inside height roomy enough. No floor so you can add your own outside rug. Great for mosquitoes. Color as shown. Rated 4-star due to the two big logos on side mesh.
Easy to set up. Provides as much shade as our 10x10 pop up when the wind is good. A little less when it isn’t. You might have to turn it perpendicular to the beach to get the good wind although it doesn’t take much. Great alternative to a pop up. And it’s light so it’s not a big deal to schlep off the beach after a long day of laying on your ass drinking beer underneath it. I tried to buy different stakes which were suggested but filling the bag full of sand works fine and you don’t have to pound it into the ground every time you move the shade. This is day 4 with it. Seems very secure and I’m not worried about it blowing away with a strong wind like an umbrella. It’s expensive AF but worth it. Horry county needs to get their head out of their ass and allow these on Myrtle beach.
Not sure how the ground cloth barrier will work but the carry bag is way too small. They even ship it separately as to not have it shipped in the carry case. Come on man.
