Perfect sun protection for a baby who can’t yet crawl on the beach. Needs a towel or something soft for where the baby lays, but offers great shade. A bit tricky to collapse to store but after a few tries, it gets easier.
I have yet to take this tent hiking. So, I am going to just mention that it was delivered quickly. I set up the tent in my yard sans rainfly because I only had a few minutes to test it. I had it done in less than 20 minutes by myself (only because it was the first time I've done it ..the next time will be quicker). The poles seem sturdy and they go together quickly. The tent seems quality and it is lightweight. It folded easily and I was able to easily put it back in the bag. If nothing is wrong when I use it, I will not update my review and leave it as is with 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
We're happy with our tent so far. We did a mock setup in the living room tonight since we won't be actually using the tent for camping for a few weeks. Impressed with the size of the zippers and construction. Setup was easy. Glad we spent the extra money on this tent since we didn't want the side vents on the less costly version. This tent is replacing a cheap Co***an three person tent we've used for 20+ years until the zippers finally failed. Happy to have the extra room and a quality tent. We measured the inside dimensions of the tent at 80" W, 92" L, and 52" H. We've attached a photo of the stakes and guy ropes included with the tent. Ten stakes total, not sure about the length of the ropes. We'll report back and possibly add another star once we've actually used the tent. 07/05/19 Update: We finally used the tent for 3 days of camping today. No issues and happy with the purchase.
Really, this is a 4.5 star review. This is a darn decent little tent. Easy to assemble. Love how the tent is not permanently attached to the cot (will be great for an additional sleeping area for our house with a nice air mattress on top). The cot is sturdy and makes tent camping more comfortable. Love the little shoe holder under the cot. I thought the pole through the center on the cot would be bothersome, but it really wasn't. Love the little clip at the top for a light and that it has less mesh than many tents, so we didn't have to have the fly on and still had ventilation and privacy. A few cons to this tent: the doors on either side are attached at the bottom and the zipper goes up and over like a rainbow. This is a HORRIBLE design for a tent door, because to get in and out the thing has to be almost completely unzipped, so bugs freely fly in and out (vs if it was a C shaped zipping door). It is a small tent, the shape of it with the top tapering in, makes it feel even smaller. Luckily, my husband and I aren't large people, so it works for us, but there is definitely no additional room for clothing/packs/pets etc. The pockets on the inside are a bit useless... they hide deep in thr corners and end up under the pillow, I wish they were higher up the wall. I'd buy it again for the price, but after this season, we'll probably just try and find a better shaped/equipped tent with a similar footprint size and use this one as our extra. Overall though, happy with the purchase.
This is probably the best quality affordable 4 season backpacking tent out there. And what I mean by that is you can live in this tent for about 4 seasons before it wears out. I would know because I've done it twice now. I originally purchased this tent two years ago because I had been camping in Utah for several months and it was getting colder and I wasn't confident my other tent would hold up in the winter. I looked at a lot of tents online and the thing that caught my eye about this one was the skirt around the foot of the tent. I had previously camped in Idaho winter weather in a similar tent that I think cost around $300, and it was a great tent except that the wind would occasionally blow snow up underneath the rain fly. When I saw the skirt on this tent I figured who ever designed it probably actually knew a thing or two about camping in the winter (and the price was unbeatable) so I went ahead and purchased it. And then I slept in it for the whole winter. And then spring, and then summer, and then fall. By that point the zippers had started to wear out and the rain fly had been weakened by UV light from being outside all summer and fall. And so I purchased two more of them. I gave one away and a little over a year later, I'm sitting in the second one in November in Idaho writing up this review. Who ever designed this tent knew what they were doing. Simple, elegant, durable, versatile, and light weight are all words that describe it. The inner tent has a waterproofed nylon floor to keep out moisture from the ground and the right amount of mesh on top to provide ventilation to minimize condensation and keep mosquitoes and insects out. The outer layer is also made from thoughly waterproofed nylon such that no water can get in from the outside. The seams are properly seam taped. The skirt prevents wind from blowing snow or rain in. And even the vents can be closed if you're in an extreme blizzard. The only moisture that you deal with in this tent when it is set up properly is condensation. There is really no way I know of to avoid having some level of condensation in a small tent in the winter (except possibly holding your breath all night) but the elegance of this design is that almost all the condensation condenses on the outer layer of the tent and runs down into the dirt. That way everything in the inner tent stays dry. On really really cold nights I have noticed a little bit of frost in the inner tent, and sometimes in the mornings when the sun is melting the frost at the peak of the rain fly a little bit will drip down through the mesh rather than run down the side into the dirt. But overall, it really does stay almost bone dry all through the winter. I've slept in this tent during strong wind, torrential rain, 3 to 5 inches of snow, and single digit temperatures. It handles it all just fine. I think it could handle significantly heavier snow but 3 to 5 inches is the most I've had in one night before (I checked it with a tape measure). If you are expecting realy heavy snow, I recommend using the ties on the inside of the rain fly that tie around the poles because this will stabilize the poles to be able to hold significantly more weight without buckling. One review said they got 2 feet of snow in one night. I'm guessing that was a bit of an exaggeration, but I would say that this tent is easily strong enough to hold 10 to 12 inches of snow without collapsing. *Update, It's January now and I've moved to northern Idaho about 8 miles from the Canadian border. It hit -18 degrees Farenheit the other night and I'm still sleeping in the tent every night.
These stakes are super sharp on both ends. They scratched me and cut me. They are sturdy and were perfect for our Christmas decorations but definitely take care when handling them.
I recently purchased the North Face Storm Break 1 tent for a seven day adventure trip and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed with its performance. Firstly, the construction of the tent is top-notch. It was able to withstand strong winds and rain without any issues, keeping me dry and protected throughout the trip. The poles and stakes are sturdy and held up well even in challenging conditions. Setting up the tent was a breeze, with clear instructions and an intuitive design. I was able to pitch it in a matter of minutes, which was a huge relief after a long day of riding. Packing it away was equally as simple, making it a hassle-free process. One of the biggest selling points for me was the compact size of the tent. It was incredibly lightweight and easy to pack, making it perfect for adventure motorcycle trips. It also didn't take up much space in my pack, leaving room for other essential gear. The only downside I found was the limited space inside the tent. As it is a one-person tent, there isn't much room for additional gear on a longer trip. However, this is to be expected with a compact sleep system, and I was able to manage by using the vestibule area for some of my gear. Overall, I highly recommend the tent. It's a great product with exceptional construction and ease of use. It's a reliable and durable option for any outdoor enthusiast, especially for those looking for a compact and lightweight sleep system.
First off, I am not great at putting up tents. This tent, however, is really easy to put together. Just watch the video on the product page, and they show you exactly how to do it. The tent comes with the poles already inside where they should be, and you basically just raise it up. It also comes with a cover for shade and privacy, and it has a cute little window in the back. It says it’s a four person tent, but keep in mind that it’s really more like a two person tent that would also fit your (limited) gear. Even with four elementary school-aged children inside, it would be a tight fit. My only complaint is that there ain’t no way that I’m getting this thing back in the bag it came in. If you manage to do so, my proverbial hat is off to you! 😁 I’m very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.
They lied about the head. See photo. Yes I could return it, but I've had this happen a lot lately with hardware, I'm guessing the scheme is to send a slightly inferior higher margin product and hope most will just take it instead of sending it back.
Very easy to put together. Nice size. Didn't run into any water so I can't speak on whether it's water resistant or not. My neighbor put it back in the back. They used YouTube for directions. Worth the money for us.
Love the tent, set it up as soon as I got it. Only problem I have it that it sagged in the middle
This is a nice—very large—tent! It’s remarkably easy to set up. In fact, I was able to set it up completely by myself the first time. I wish I had a photo of the tent opened but it literally filled my entire living room. (The weather has been horrible every day since the tent arrived so I haven’t had a chance to set it up outside yet. We haven’t bought a tent in about ten years, so—to us—much of the design of this tent is very innovative. I love that the instructions sheet is sewn into the carrying case and is printed on a waterproof fabric so you never lose or damage them. Set up could not be simpler—first pull on the black handles and then pull on the yellow handles. The sides of the tent pop out with ease. Once it’s completely open, the tent is extremely roomy inside. You could fit a queen sized air mattress inside with plenty of room to spare. The separate rain fly just pulls over the top. Taking the tent down is just a matter of reversing the directions. Once it’s laying flat, it fits back into the carrying case without much effort at all—there’s no magic formula for getting it to fit. The carrying bag with the tent inside is pretty heavy. I was able to lift it and carry it without a problem but I’m not sure I’d want to lug it over a long distance. When the weather is better, I’ll be sure to set up the tent in my backyard and update my review to include water resistance. That requires rain—not snow.
I used this tent this weekend for Coachella just as a changing tent. Popping it up and staking it down was simple. It was pretty windy and the tent didn’t blow away or collapse or rip. Yes, the material is rather sheer, not see-through per se, so you can see the shadow of whoever is inside. So I wouldn’t say this is completely a privacy tent, especially for those looking for something for their children. I didn’t mind the tent being sheer since I was going to be half naked all weekend anyway, but it was nice to not have to change in front of my surrounding camp-neighbors. I’m 5’2” and I was comfortable changing; my hands did hit the top when I was pulling something over my head, so I’d assume if you’re any taller (the tent is 5’9”), then you may not be as comfortable. The tent doesn’t have a bottom (which makes sense since this is also supposed to be used as a shower tent) so you will have to use the stakes or put sand bags in the pockets at the bottom to hold it down. I am bummed that the tent doesn’t have actual pockets sewn onto the sides to hold small things (the “pockets” at the bottom are for sandbags to hold the tent down for those who didn’t read the description or see the description photos). Breakdown should’ve been more simple, but we were in a bit of a rush to pack up and leave. But from the video in the product information, it looks easy enough with a little practice. Overall, this got the job done for the weekend and will be good for the next adventure!
If you're looking for a light, reasonably durable, fully freestanding one person tent with a little bit of extra room on the sides and some extra length, then I would consider this a top choice. I'm 6'2", so most ultralight tents aren't long enough to comfortably fit me (in smaller tents, the bottom of my sleeping bag is pressed against the end of the tent.) So far, I've taken it on a 3 day backpacking and 2 and 5 day bikepacking trips and I really love it. It packs down small, it's easy to set up, and it has a large storage loft and some pockets for organizing your gear inside. What your sacrificing with this ultralight tent is some durability. If you're thinking that because it's 500 plus dollars, you're getting a tent that's as durable as a $120 REI tent, you are mistaken. My REI tent uses a thicker and more durable material, the larger zippers work better/smoother, and it has held up very well with hard use. But it's relatively large and heavy, so I prefer the HV UL1 for most adventures. I use a footprint with my HV UL1 and I carry a roll of tenacious tape to patch up any rips. My initial impressions are that, with careful handling, it will last a long time.
We live in an apartment so we didn’t get to set this up prior to use, as I don’t have a yard to put it in (so it didn’t get any additional weather proofing prior to use). We hit poor weather during setup, but it was seriously an instant up, and we loaded it down quickly with items we didn’t want wet. There were small puddles at the corner seams, by morning, but otherwise it held out the rain pretty well. I am 5’4” and had no problem standing, the 6 ft boyfriend, he slouched. We easily fit our queen air mattress and our few bags, with room to spare. While we waited out the rain, we sat up our chairs in it and had 3 adults in there, comfortably. It’s roomy! I am in awe of the air flow! It is a full screen top, huge side windows, a front and a back door. Adding the rain fly does not super heat the tent either, making this a perfect summer tent. Takedown was just as easy, although getting squished back into the bag was rough. It just doesn’t fold up all small again. Glad I purchased this tent and I’m ready for my next outing! Highly recommend!
