My favorite part of this whole set might be the extra zipper on the main bag that makes it expandable. Because of course I can't wrap it up and put it away as good as they had it originally. But with the expandable space, everything goes back in super easy. Ok but first I should say the parts that are not great. There aren't very many so this will be fast. The tent fabric is thin and it definitely will show your silhouette at night. I included a picture of what it looks like with a lantern lit and a walking stick throwing a shadow. The early morning sunshine will come right through. So be aware of that if that is an issue for you. The camp table is a soft top. It is an excellent, lightweight table. Just don't expect it to have a solid top. I think that is literally it for any complaints. Everything else exceeds expectations. It is very accurately represented in the descriptions, but it is even better that advertised. The chairs are awesome. I am 5'4" and my husband is 6'4" and we both think the chairs are super comfortable. They have extra pockets in the back and cupholders in both arms. It will hold your book, bug spray, water bottle, flashlight, and binoculars with no issue. The seat has extra padding so you won't freeze from drafts once the sun goes down. Great chairs! I have tried countless camp chairs and I love these! The table is great. It packs down super small and has a large table area. It is absolutely perfect for in between the camp chairs. It will hold your meal or your card game. It is a really cool design. It did take me a second to figure out how to open up the table top the first time. But every other part of the process was very intuitive. The tent was possibly the easiest tent to set up that I have ever tried. Setup and takedown was ridiculously fast. I didn't even have to look at the directions once. Even putting the pole through the rainfly was completely logical and very easy. The three windows of the tent all have a pocket at the base that they can be tucked into. It is the most convenient and easy way to deal with the loose window fabric. The tent would be better staked down because the vents at the base would be more open, but this tent stands on its own without needing to be staked. So if you are stuck on rock hard ground or on sand where staking is a problem, it won't be an issue. Remember when they say it is a four person tent, they mean that four people can physically fit into it for sleeping. If you want sleeping bags and backpacks to fit comfortably, I would recommend no more than three people and then it will be tight. This will fit me and my husband comfortably. Overall this set deserves five stars. Getting everything at once is a real bonus. I would absolutely recommend this set for someone looking to get started out with camping gear. It is simple and it is quality.
Edit: Since first posting this review - I've had this tent out on three more camping trips. All of them have been 5 - 7 days. The last two (one in Fall 2018, and 2019 Memorial Weekend/Week) I've experienced many days of rain, and a few days of all out storms. Last fall, I lost my canopy and some other equipment, but the Kodiak held up. This past camping trip, I forgot the ground tarp. We had several storms roll through with heavy rain and wind. The tent held up fine, and when packing it up, I was absolutely stunned to find the bottom of the tent totally dry. It seemed to fare better without the ground tarp in that aspect. I can't say enough about this tent - it's really holding up to all the conditions. I've since added carpet and even a 4 foot table to the interior of the tent. This fall we are planning an island camping trip where I'm going to be forced to drop some of my gear to be able to fit it on the boat --- the tent is coming though - because it's the most important part of my camping trips other then water and food. My first canvas tent. I've always wanted one, but most are hard to impossible for 1 person to setup. Being a single dad with small children, I've stuck with easier nylon tents. This year, after blowing through a 3rd nylon tent in 3 years, I decided to look for something better quality. I first was on the fence with the price. I knew canvas cost more, but I wanted a good size, stand up in tent. After reading reviews and watching videos, I knew the Kodiak Canvas 14x10 was what I wanted. When I saw a weekend sale on it, I got it for a decent price on whatcampingtent.com. Delivery was quick. I did the initial setup and seasoning on a stretch of warm and sunny days so I knew I could put it up, get it wet, and dry it out quick. Setup was pretty easy, only requiring a little muscle to get the two support poles in. Everything else was a cinch. The quality of the tent stood out - everything from the tent stakes to the structure itself speaks of quality. The windows are great - my only complaint would be the awning poles - I think telescoping poles would be much more appropriate to adjust height - rather then having to angle them during rain. They also could've used a little more height - I have to duck under it a little to get in and out of the tent. It's not taking off a star, or even a half, it's one of the only things they could improve on in my opinion. Everything else is so well thought out - and the storage bag is definitely a step in the right direction. 40 years of stuffing stuff into storage bags that don't fit right - Kodiak got this one perfect! I did get the tent out on a week long camping trip this past week. It performed great, and sleeping in canvas is so much more comfortable then nylon. We got a variety of weather - hot and humid, cold, rain (although not a downpour). The lowest was around 45F, the highest was 87F. I ran a small Mr. Heater to warm the tent up during the coldest night, and it worked great in the Kodiak Canvas. I also ran it at the end to help dry out the tent after rain the previous day. Worked like a charm - although the awning was still a little wet due to water pooling on it - so be careful of that - even a little rain will puddle up in the awning - with just goes to show how waterproof the material is. Great investment - I expect this tent to last for years.
Used this tent for the first time today at the beach. It was slightly breezing ..not strong winds. It comes with metal stakes which were useless in the sand lol so I’ll save those for use in the dirt. It has built in bags in the bottom corners to fill with rocks or sand. I used all those today. It also comes with separate sand bags to attach to the tent and bury in the sand. I used 2 of those today on the side where the wind was blowing. I also put our beach bag inside towards the back corner where wind is strongest. We’ve been here 3 hours and it’s holding up great. I think if it was really windy you’d have to tie this down good. But I’ve seen 2 beach umbrellas fly by and our tent is still up lol. It created a nice amount of shade if we need some relief from the sun. 3 of us can fit in here sitting pretty comfortably. Not sure how I’m going to fold this bad boy up but we’ll find out lol
My first whatcampingtent.com review as a Prime member because you need to GET THIS TENT!! This amazingly water and wind proof tent held up under an all night thunderstorm. Got this for my kids (9 & 7) and I so we can Camp, hike, kayak in Daniel Boone forest. We get really bad weather here at times so I need a winner! We put this up in the back yard during remanence of hurricane Nate. It was 80° and clear when we started. The tent was a bit warm inside but I could have simply draped the rear cover over top to allow more venting. We used every stake and strap. When we crawled inside at 9 pm it was 75° and comfortable. 3 of us each have our own sleeping bag and mat. There was plenty of room for 1 more but all floor space would have been taken. At 1:00am the rain started getting heavier. By 3am it was a sever thunderstorm. The wind ,10mph gust, heavy heavy rain pounded this tent until 5am. NOT A DROP OF MOISTURE! No drips, seeping through wall or bottom. NOTHING!! I did use a tarp as a foot print but in this condition it wouldnt have mattered much. The kids and I slept pretty good. Kids never woke up worried but did wake up because the rain was loud hitting the tent. Coleman should supply 4 pair of ear plugs. :) The dog slept in the vestibule which stayed dry, with foot print, except at the bottom edge around the ground. Just keep items back 6-8inch and it will be fine. Have to admit, at times, I got a litte nervous about water and wind but this tent could easily taken on more rain and wind with no problem. Price doesnt mean quality. Dont waste $200 to $500 on a 3 season 4 person tent. If like us we camp a few times a year. We are under 6ft tall, lol. So unless you need special accomadations this tent is a proven winner. Only upgrade I will make are tent stakes. Coleman is still a major competitor to high end outdoor gear. Very, very, very pleased to make this my first review.
This canopy is a fantastic purchase—easy to assemble and takes just a couple of minutes to set up. The quality is excellent, but what truly stands out is the customer service. As we were setting it up for the first time, one of the tent poles split. I reached out to [email protected] via email to explain the issue, and to my surprise, they shipped a replacement the very next day—expedited! Their responsiveness and commitment to customer satisfaction are truly impressive. We love this product and highly recommend it. Thank you for standing by your product and providing such amazing service!
We camped in the fall. Very windy! These stakes were such a higher grade than what comes with the tent. The tent did not budge the entire weekend in high winds. Highly recommend!!
Good price, fast arrival and good workmanship. It fits on my Z-Shade and was easy to put up. We are able to stow it away with the rest of the shade - took it off, folded and placed in the center of the shade when it is collapsed.
As advertised....performs flawlessly...great addition to my deadlift platform
I got this for a solo beach trip and it was absolutely perfect! I forgot to time the setup, but it was worth whatever time it took me to do. I read the instructions at home and implementation was seemlesss. Follow the instructions. The location of the shade changed throughout the day, but was always there and the last few hours was full shade. Worth the investment. Very sturdy. I sat my chair in the sun so I could warm up from the shade as needed 🤯😃
*Update after 2 years* Tent still holds up nicely. Camped once in the rain and there was zero leak inside the tent. For the price it’s already well worth it. *Original review* Bought this tent in early 2023 and has since taken it on 8 camping trip and it held up great. It is easier to set up with 2 people and took is less than 10 minutes. On one of the trip it rained but the tent kept us inside. It is well ventilated. All the zippers & tent poles function great. We got the 4 people tent. With 2 adults and 2 small dogs sleeping inside, there’s still plenty of room to put our stuffs in the tent. Inner pockets are useful to keep our phones, keys, and flashlight easily accessible. As a beginner tent, this really is the best option.
I’m cheap and don’t feel like investing in a fancy roof shade, so using a few bungee cords, tent stakes, these poles and a tarp, I was set up in less than 10 minutes. Very easy to assemble/disassemble.
CONS it did not come with the holes/vents for the portable ac units or electric cord to go into the tent and the closure flaps for the windows can only be done from the outside (with the exception of the skylights). PROS Canvas is very durable. I just spent three nights with low temps in the 40s at night and high temps of 90 during the day. The structural air tubes remained SOLID without any deflation. When I used other tents, I would normally wake with alot of moisture inside. I experienced no moisture or condensation at all. Set up and take down was the easiest experience I've ever had! I am VERY pleased with my purchase!
2, 4, 6, 8 - Who do we appreciate? Everyone who came after '2' who get's the heel out of our tent. i guess you could put a family in here - but why? get another tent. There is plenty of room for the kids though. I'm no stranger to tent camping. I lived in a two man tent (when I was a kid) for about a year when a high yield fund magically turned 5 to 40. I traveled the beautiful state of California with a 95 lb Lab / Shepherd and a canoe on top of my Blazer. I still have that two man tent - it's been stitched up a few times - but she still keeps me dry. I must admit - I was always a little jealous of folks with the big tents. Not anymore though. This is more than a tent - This is a forest cottage. I'm 6 foot and I can stand in the center - my head touches the top - but just barely. There is enough room to set up two separate double sleeping areas in the sides and a kitchen & sitting salon in the center. The tent is made of pretty thin sheer material - I'm not really aware of what they're making tents out now-a-days. I would imagine a fabric of this weight would be used on a packers tent to keep weight down. I kinda figured a tent this size would be made of sturdier stuff. It's not heavy for it's size - but I'm never packin a tent this size more than 1/2 a mile. I hope this holds up. If it don't - I'll stitch it up. Speaking of Stitching - the bag my tent came in was coming un-stitched out of the box. That doesn't bode too well for quality control - and I'm knocking 'um a star for that. (see Photo). We went to the park to set her up - trial run so to speak. I can set up the two man tent blind folded in the rain in about 2 minutes. This one, hold the phone, not so fast. I didn't time it - but getting out all the parts, trying to read instruction that were too small to decipher whether they were useful or not, and head scratching - took about an hour to set her up. I would imagine subsequent setups at about a half hour, and with more experience 15 to 20 minutes when hustling. I won't want to hustle though - Think I'll set up the Taj Mahal with cold beer in hand. This isn't really a tent - Its a little cottage. Looking forward to using her for camping and music festivals. I Like her - but lack of quality control makes this a four star review. ~ Thanks for Reading - Have an Incredible Life! ~
This is the easiest pop up canopy I've ever had! I do a lot of craft shows and I don't always have someone there to help me set up a canopy... and I don't need anyone's help with this!! I just had to put the canopy on the first time and pull the corners apart and then push the middle up and the canopy basically does the work for you! ALSO, I had a small issue with the first one right out of the box, something very minor that I wasn't even sure they would care about, but I sent an email and before I knew it they had already sent out a remedy for it and it works fantastic! I don't want to get into specifics of my issue and the remedy because I don't want the company getting taken advantage of, but if you have an issue, reach out to them. They seem more than happy to remedy!! This fits any 10x10 craft space and it is super stable! I've been hanging grid walls from it and it shows no weakness. No holes or tears yet! It comes with fabric pouches for weights, but not the actual weights. I have had a few craft shows with some wind, nothing crazy, but it hasn't budged. I only got to use it for about 5 events so this upcoming season will be the real test! But with how well it's been traveling and functioning, I don't expect any issues! More color options would be great!
I purchased this tent so we could still enjoy our patio in the winter. I was able to set it up by myself, but it was a pain (so two people it is). It comes with stakes, tie downs, sand bags, and a carry bag for storage. It's not one that you can assemble in two minutes, so if you camp a lot or plan on using it at many different locations, you might want to consider another brand that pops up pretty quick without all the poles. But for our application, it will sit on our patio until spring. The fire table keeps it toasty during cold weather. I like that it has two windows that you can open for ventilation. It is sitting on concrete, so I'm unable to stake it down, but I used small concrete blocks all around. We had 20-25 mph winds today and it did not move. I can't comment on how waterproof it is or how well it performs in the rain since our patio is covered. The material seems pretty heavy duty, but very wrinkly, which I'm hoping will work its way out with time. I was able to take a hair dryer and smooth out a couple of sections. Not 100% wrinkle-free, but acceptable enough to see the TV clearly now. I purchased the 15x15, but it is not a true 15ft as advertised. It is more like a 13x13, but still spacious enough for our needs. This tent does not have a floor. So your floor is whatever you set it up on (grass, concrete, etc). There is plenty of ceiling height on the inside. I'm 5'11 and I have to slightly jump to touch the highest point in the center. It has two doors (front and back) and the zippers seem good quality. So far, I'm satisfied with the purchase. Seems to be a pretty good value considering many others are twice the price. And best of all, I'm now warm on my patio. (Just open your windows and use a CO detector if you plan to do the same.)
