My husband and I used this tarp last night and we love it. We set it up as we watched a severe thunderstorm roll in. Wind gusts were in the 50s and it rained solid all night. We woke up super dry. The tarp fit both our 12ft hammocks underneath. It’s not the lightest tarp ever, but it’s lighter than what we had before. I highly recommend this tarp, especially for the price.
The stakes which are a cheap flimsy plastic broke right off the bat, thank goodness I had brought the umbrellas and their stakes as a back up , it was a little bit of a pain for my first set up, but now that I know what works and what doesn't next time will be easier the canopy was nice and way better than using umbrellas but I did use umbrella stakes to replace the cheap plastic stakes that come with this tent, so just a heads up ( have a backup) , while it provides enough protection from the sun we got rained on and it just came right through the canopy, no big deal but just wanted to add that for people getting this for camping or picnics not one bit waterproof, the bag is not well made and is made like those cheap reusable bags you get at the dollar tree, I don't expect it to last long, and we lost points for how heavy it is, I got the 10x10 and glad I did because we take up Alot of space on the beach with chairs, coolers & stuff but I have a beach cart so I put it in there but if you are hand carrying everything, this little tent weighs a few lbs. Otherwise I really liked it and will definitely be taking it on future trips but I will be using umbrella stakes because it was so much easier that way.
We just returned from our first camping trip with this tent. We experienced monsoon type rain and wind both nights. This tent performed like a CHAMP! The video attached to this review is of the sound of the pouring rain from inside the tent, which stayed 100% dry!! Could not be happier with this purchase. So easy to assemble and take down. And the first tent I have owned that actually fit back into the bag with no problem. Recommend 100%!
Having served in the US Army using this exact piece of equipment, I can say first hand that the item I recieved is high quality. While I can tell that the item was issued and used, I can also say that it is definitely not worn out or destroyed beyond use. There were no holes in mine, there was also no real wear on it despite it being listed as "Grade 2". McGuire Surplus sells these items cheaper on whatcampingtent.com for some reason. The price difference was almost $10 between their site and whatcampingtent.com, so I bought it here on whatcampingtent.com. Im not a fan of UCP, but im just going to use this item for bivouacing and some field training ill be doing in the civilian side of things. I have no doubt that ill get many more miles out of this bivvy cover.
Just as described! Huge. Easy to set up (watch the tutorial video, it is super helpful). I’m a small girl and was able to set it up on my own in about 20 minutes for first time. It also looks great, I love the huge window, it gets lots of sun. Very functional interior. It rained hard the second night I had it up, and it stood up well! Remember your guylines :)
Love it! I've been using a sunbrella for a few years with my 2 young kids and I loved it but the bar in the middle was annoying and we need a little more space now. This is perfect! It pops up very easily into a roomy tent with big windows on all 3 sides that attach to hooks for easy opening/closing. I like the pockets on the outside to fill with sand for weight (our sunbrella had them inside so they stuck out and took up room). The stakes seem pretty sturdy with corkscrew design, they are plastic but don't seem like they would break easily. Convenient straps on the outside let you tie the included ropes to the stakes to hold the tent down. Plenty of room for all 4 of us inside; I'm 5'1" and I can lie down in either direction with my feet inside. There's one small mesh pocket with 3 compartments that could hold a phone, a few snacks etc., Not much other storage but plenty of room for your beach bag and cooler! Folding the tent was pretty easy altho keeping it scrunched enough to fit back in the bag is slightly challenging (i'll probably find something to keep in the bag to strap it closed before packing), but after some wrangling I was able to close the bag. I like that it has straps to cinch the bag closed after packing so it's not straining the zipper. (Without them the zipper would probably rip before long.) I'll have to come back and update after our first beach outing, which I'm now excited for! My concern is whether this will hold up and stay put in strong winds, also the material is pretty thin, but for the price it's great quality and a good option for family beach days! My kids have loved just sitting in it in the backyard so far!
Easy to assemble, lightweight and great for beach use for the family. The textile is good quality no sun light passes through which makes it great to avoid sunburns. Extremely easy to transport in the bag with all the parts. It is waterproof, good for sun or rain.
Very nice quality and spacious. East setup and love the stove jack for hot tenting!
I had a tepui a few years ago and at 116 pounds, I found it hard to lift onto my car. This tent weighs 90 pounds which makes a huge difference for me. My first trip it only dropped my MPG by about 1 MPG. It is small, 2 people, but you’ll be cozy! Definitely worth it and a nice buy!
I basically bought a brand new item I'll have to make repairs on before I ever used it. Set up is easy. It rained briefly and kept us dry. Good size for 2-3 people and a dog. Really like the screened in vestibule idea. Terrible quality control. Loose threads everywhere and a gaping hole near the main door zipper between the vestibule and main tent. Unacceptable from Coleman. I know if I return it I'll get push back because I had to use it. It came barely in time for my trip so I didn't get a chance to set it up prior to leaving or I would have never used it. People depend on these types of products to keep them dry and safe. I really have no tolerance for low QC when it comes to these types of goods. It's not an item where only esthetics count, it's a tool for survival in some cases.
Followed all directions tightened all valves !the material of the tent weight it to heavy for the air pocket / poles to lift this up if you buy this try it right away . I didn’t and my return time ran out .. out the money for this aweful tent ! Not worth 1 star !
This is not a lightweight backpacking tent. You'll want a vehicle or pack animal to lug it around. That being said, it comes out of and actually can get back into a relatively small package. Assembly is straight forward - if you've put up a two-pole tent in the last 30 years you'll know how to put up this one. The rainfly is a bit small. You are going to get water inside this tent when getting in/out in the rain, but that's a common issue with this design. The stakes don't have any point at their bottoms, which indicates a cost-cutting action. It makes me wonder what other corners have been cut during manufacturing. Overall, the materials seem to be heavier-duty than a bigbox store, cheap tent. The stitching appears to be done perfectly, which is nice. You'll still want to waterproof the seams with some sort of seam sealer. This tent, if properly cared for, should give many years of use. If you are new to camping, this would be a good tent for you but keep in mind that the number of people it says it'll hold assumes average-sized people with no gear in the tent with them. Basically, this tent strikes me as "good enough" but it doesn't make me say WOW! Hence, the four stars.
This is largest tarp in the whatcampingtent.com and enough to cover my tent site. With a long length of this tarp, my 4 person popup tent and remaining space did not wet in the rainy day. It smells until several time use.
Attractive finish, lightweight, strong hold when extended. I used these to replace a Bimini top pole on my boat. I cut the ends off and custom fabricated it. I will be buying another set for our camping van for use with a tarp.
After a 7 year fix-it relationship with an RV camper van, I decided to sell it and try camping in my smaller EV (electric vehicle). As a car camper, I wanted to use my vehicle as my tent, so-to-speak. In the EV's utility mode I can keep the heater or air conditioning running all night using the lithium batteries as my energy source. So I tried a sleep-over in the car and slept comfortably that first experimental night. What I found myself doing, however, was trying to replace the comforts of the RV with accessories to my small vehicle. One accessory that I wanted was a privacy tent that would make it easier for me to change clothes, maybe set-up a portable potty, or basin, and perhaps a shower so I went shopping on whatcampingtent.com. On whatcampingtent.com there are quite a few pop-up privacy tents as well as other traditional set-ups with poles. I looked at many, read the reviews, watched the videos. This Jet Set Privacy Tent appeared to be well-made, reasonable in price, easy to set-up, and likely had enough space for my purposes. I purchased it. I deducted 1 star off because the tent came with no instructions or warranty information. At the time I bought it, the tent could be purchased for less elsewhere so shop around. Shopping at the manufacturer's website may include a warranty. From floor to ceiling as I have measured the it, the floor space is smaller (48"x 48"), the center is wider (about 60"x 60"), and its about 77" high. Because it is wider in the middle, the design lends itself to being able to change clothes or shower comfortably. The quality of the tent is fine. The material appears sturdy. The zippers work well. The door of the tent is not under great strain when zipped likely preventing tears in the material. There are plenty of pockets to put items in the tent and two lovely large windows. I purchased a small table and a portable potty to go inside and the tent does not feel over-crowded with these additions. To pack it up, the tent is placed in the long narrow carrier bag through an opening in the top. As long as I was seated, I was able to get it back inside the bag where it fit snuggly. Although not as compact when packed up as other styled pop-up tents, it fit in my vehicle with my other camping equipment just fine either lying vertically down or horizontally across the back of the car or standing upright behind the front seats. Whatever those other reviewers said about the ease of set-up, this really depends on who you are, age wise, height, weight, strength, and strategy. I am almost 76 years old, 5'3" high, and weigh 120 lbs. I consider myself in good shape for a senior citizen. With no instructions with the tent, I found what appeared to be the manufacturer's instructions on-line. After unboxing the tent inside my house and straightening the tent out on the floor, the instruction is to start to open the tent by first pulling the tab at the roof of the tent until the roof/ceiling pops out. Well, that did not work for me. I wrestled the tent and pulled and pulled and pulled the roof tab, positioned myself as per the instructions, pulled again.... and unsuccessful, finally gave up a half hour later and took a nap!! After resting, I got on-line and watched two helpful videos. In the first, a woman set-up a similar styled screen room by pulling out the sides of the tent first. In the second, a man set-up the Jet Set Privacy tent also by popping out the sides of the tent first then he appeared to go inside the tent and push the ceiling up until it popped out. I tried it their way. By bracing myself, I successfully pulled the 3 tent sides out; however, I was still unable to pull out the roof/ceiling using the outside tab and I am too short to push up the ceiling from the inside. Almost without thinking, I turned the tent upside down, got partly inside, and gently pushed out the top with my FOOT until the ceiling/roof popped out then turned the tent back over. I have purchased a small tarp to perform this maneuver when camping to protect the top of the tent. For me, this tent is a keeper.
