This tent was amazing and easy to set up. I was able to put it together with no other help. It has stood strong in 30 plus mile an hour wind and had been in a few rainstorms. I stayed plenty dry. I do recommend getting a tarp to put under it but other than that I have no complaints.

The plastic does smooth out some but not all the way. It can be difficult to see through. The bag handle ripped the first time I used it. It’s very hard to put away when it’s windy outside but all in all it did keep me warm and dry in windy rainy conditions.

This tent is great! I absolutely love it so far. It says this tent takes 2 people to set up, but I was able to set it up by myself, having never set up a tent before in my life. The instructions that come with the tent are not great, so I went on YouTube and found the video for how to set it up on the Portal Tent's page. I bought this tent for my camping trips with my dog and I, and the size is great, although I'm not sure how it could comfortably sleep 6 people...maybe if they're packed in like sardines! But I have a queen sized air mattress, and it still leaves some room for storing your things. So the size is perfect for my dog and I. I love the screened in porch area as well, it really does help keep the flying bugs out. That being said, the porch does not have a bottom, so make sure to put a tarp down to help keep the critters on the ground away. I love the option for a view of the stars at night if you leave the rainfly off. The rainfly is super simple to take on and off. It did rain a bit on my last trip, and the tent stayed nice and dry. I do wish there was at least one window on the sides (there's only 2 windows...one in the back, and one on the door), but the ventilation was just fine, as I slept with both windows open. Also, I would recommend buying some better stakes, as the ones that come with it are not the best. I bought the heavy duty nail stakes and they stayed in the entire time. All in all, I am very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend this tent if you are looking for something that is good quality and is a relatively easy set up!

So let me start to say I go camping a whole lot and I have a couple stakes that continually get tripped over due to their placement for my tent canopy. They were pulled out of the ground so many times this summer that I needed a fix for this. I appreciate the glow in the dark tops to these. Wow. What a perfect fix for how much we were struggling to see the stakes in the dark which was part of the problem why everyone kept tripping over them. This is awesome! Now I don’t have to worry about someone getting hurt. Take note of the picture I included…It was pitch black outside and that top was glowing so bright. So impressed…AND excited about these! The screw action of this works wonderful. They even included the tool to screw it into the ground. The screw holds it into the ground as it should. I love this aspect which is the first reason I chose these. They hold incredibly well! No more issues with them being ripped from the ground. Yay!!

Fits my 2 person tent like a glove. Easy to pack in with the tent. Zero moisture on the bottom of my tent in the morning.

’ve owned this RTT (rooftop tent) for a year now. Just finished a 2 month road trip from New York to Florida and back and slept in the tent the majority of the time There are a lot of options in RTTs. I picked this one for several reasons. - The price was great in comparison to other RTTs. - Perfect size for my Ford Maverick. It fits on a low profile bed rack on the back of my Maverick perfectly. It sits below the roof line so there is no additional drag on long rides on the highway. - It only weighs about 100lbs which is lighter than any other RTT I’ve seen. Pros - It’s well made. Tent material is very good. The poles are strong and durable. The zippers are good quality and steady - Size. Perfect fit on the back of my ford Maverick. Very spacious when open. Could easily for 2 maybe 3 people. I’m 6ft 4in and I fit inside comfortably - Easy set up and breakdown Cons - The mattress is initially comfortable and is fine for a night or so but if you’re going to use it for an extended period like I do, you’ll want a topper. I use an additional 1.5in topper and it’s makes it just as comfortable as my bed at home. - Because of how low I set it up I had to drill additional holes in the ladder so it would lock at an appropriate angle when open - It’s great for spring, summer and fall camping but as is I would not recommend using it in the winter or if it’s cold out because it has no insulation. I purchased a tent liner for this RTT and it’s made camping in the cold a lot better. Even when it’s nice out it reduces, noise and light. Wish it came included because they are really hard to find. Overall very happy with it and would purchase it again

This worked great to keep our 8 month old out of the sun, hold our cooler, etc. we used it for our 3 year old and 8 month old at the same time for naps and fit them comfortably. It was nice to have a more sheltered spot for nursing as well. There were a couple of really windy days and we had to put the cooler in there for extra weight but it kept the sand off the cooler so worked out well. Very easy to assemble. After watching the video putting it away was easy too.

Exceeded my expectations! I was looking for a tent that is large enough for family of 4, but also can be easily stored in the luggage, this was perfect size. Assembly took about 3 minutes for 2 adults.

This shade is awesome. Only gave four stars because my shade came three little rips, which I hope don’t turn k to bigger ones.

It’s was hard to put up.

  • This backpacking tent is everything I was looking for! I love this tent and it's 100% as advertised! I purchased this tent for a backpacking trip with my friend, so a backpacking 2 person tent was what I need. Now we have spent 5 nights with this tent and guess what? It did everything I want in a backpacking tent! Pros: - Great quality. I had an alps backpacking tent. I have to say this one's quality and workmanship are better than the tents I owned after setting this tent up. The material seems durable and it's very well made. What's more, it's only cost 2/3 of the brands such as alps and hyke&byke. - Roomy. This tent has a plenty of room for 2 adults. We are both 6'1'' and we didn't feel any constrained with each other. Also, the elevated roof angles provide great head room. - Good ventilation and waterproof. The whole mesh wall provides very good ventilation. It was rained for 5 hours the 3rd night, we did not put a tarp underneath and it stayed dry. No any moisture problem when I got up in the morning. - Easy setup. It is EXTREMELY easy to put up together and set. It only took me 2 minutes to set all this up. - Lightweight and compact. It's only 15 inches when put into the storage bag. BTW, the storage bag is really nice. - I love the two ventibules, it provided us with extra space to store our backpacks and shoes. And the doors from both sides allowed we in and out without cross each other. Cons: - It didn't come with a footprint though I didn't use this tent with a footprint in 5 days trip. It always safer to put a footprint underneath. But I can't argue it for the price. All in all, this is a great tent for camping or backpacking. I would recommend it to anyone! You will be happy with this purchase!

Actually, one part was useful. “Spread your tent on a clean level surface.” I chose my living room floor for my first set up. Check. Then I read the instructions. Mistake. Look at the vendor pagepictures, and it’s much easier to figure out what is required of you. The big logo on the rain fly goes over the front door. As another reviewer said, this is probably a good starter tent, or possibly a good tent for kids camping in the backyard. I would definitely want to try this out on a rainy day at home to make sure it’s as weather tight as is claimed. It looks pretty darn bugproof, which is foundational. It looks like good tight noseeum/midges proof fabric. No doubt about this, if I was outside on a buggy night, I would definitely want to have this between me and the biting creatures. The cats got quite territorial over it. Who knew they knew about tents? I got in it and laid down, and decided that if it was gonna be a two person tent, I would really really have to want to be spending time with that other person. I am not tall, but when I flexed my feet or spread out, I occupied most of the tent. There’s a couple of small net bags sewn into the seams, useful for phone and keys and such. Other reviewers have suggested a tarp underneath it, and I think that’s a good idea suggestion. If you were going to be camping for more than an overnight, consider getting a larger rain fly that you could hang above the tent, high enough to stand up underneath. The kind of people who are doing the kind of camping that requires a more technical tent are not the people who are going to be looking at this one. It appears to be sufficiently well-made for casual camping, and if this is all you got between you and the weather out there or the bugs out there, I’d say it’s a good tent.

Used it to hold down Christmas trees on beach where we get a lot of wind. Went in easy with the drill connection and held strong

This tent is awesome! I love it! I highly recommend it! We bought the 23 foot (7 meter) version of this tent and have been living in it for most of the last month due to toxic mold in our house that needs to be abated. I highly recommend this tent! I live in the Willamette Valley Oregon where it is very wet. We have not had any problems with the tent. We have the tent set up on our property which is sloped down toward the creek. We set it up on the most level area we have, but when it rains, the drain-off runs downhill past the tent. We have not had any water in the tent even during the hardest of our downpours including a weekend storm. So far, we have only had 25 MPH winds and no problems with the tent staying up. The packaging left a little to be desired. While the box arrived with everything in it, the packaging was quite beat up and could use some reinforcement because of how large and heavy the package is. I would suggest some sort of wood or metal reinforcing the corners to help the package arrive intact. This would be especially helpful give the reviews about losing contents. That didn't happen to us, but it is a major issue in the whatcampingtent.com comments here. The tent was quite heavy. There was no way that I could move it. My husband used a wheelbarrow to move it to the location we needed it on our property. The delivery person unloaded it while I was not here and put it smack dab in front of a door making it impossible to get into that door. I am guessing they were concerned about rain and put it under the eaves of the house. This is an issue with the delivery person not the item or whatcampingtent.com, but it did make it awkward when the mold investigator arrived shortly after the delivery and couldn't get into the house. Setting it up on a slope is not recommended as the sidewalls on the downhill never stand up properly even if you stretch them as tight as you can. The angle messes it up. This is true even though where we set it up is only a SLIGHT slope. If you get the 23 foot tent, you actually need close to 35-40 feet of area to actually tie the tent down. More if you want walkways around the outside. For instance, if you store wood back behind your tent and need to walk around it to get the wood, there will be long ties on the sides stretching out from the tent in the way of walking. So account for that when you plan the footprint of the tent. Assembly was not complicated, but the instructions were only marginally helpful. Given the size of the tent, it took 4 of us a few hours to set it up. There are technically instructions with photos included in a pamphlet inside the box. The problem is that they have been poorly translated from another language requiring a lot of inferring what in heaven's name the person writing the instructions was trying to convey or if indeed they were drinking heavily. The translation of the instructions simply didn't explain things well and made the setup challenging. The most important part of setup is getting the stake lines out as far as possible to maintain the sidewalls, but they do not say that. Major translation fail. At least with the 23-foot tent, it is not a quick assembly. This is way too heavy and cumbersome to take backpacking or to take down and move regularly in our opinion. It is quite an undertaking to set it up and take it down. So we will probably not use this for recreational camping. I imagine that the smaller sizes would work better for this. It is well built in our opinion. I do not see any issues with the sewing or the fabric of the tent. The zippers and flaps all work as advertised. We have not added a stove yet so I cannot speak to that. Since we are close to home we are just using an electric heater and heated blankets for the time being. The weather is very moderate here. The seams of the tent are reinforced with some sort of plastic coating that is applied in strips to the length of the seams on the inside of the tent. I have no doubt that this helps keep water from seeping through the seams. I read other reviews saying that they had problems getting ahold of the company. This was not my experience at all. When I bought the tent, I needed it ASAP. USPS doesn't deliver to our home address, so we have a PO box. But some listings here on whatcampingtent.com cannot use PO Boxes. This listing said that it was not shipped from whatcampingtent.com. But I purchased it in a hurry and then realized I had it sent to the home address not the PO box. I contacted the company to find out if they were mailing the package via USPS because if they were, it wouldn't be delivered. They replied within 24 hours saying it was coming via FedEx which meant that the home address was fine (whatcampingtent.com makes having a PO box and no USPS service at our home address complicated as they do not list how the item will be sent in the listing or at checkout). The company replied well within whatcampingtent.com's estimated reply time. They were helpful and polite. I have no complaints about our interaction. The first few nights we were out of the house, we stayed in hotel. Because of my health problems we have to have a hotel room with a kitchenette. I figured we spent less on this tent and all the set up than we would spend on a week in the hotel. Well worth the money for what we got. I have no complaints besides what is posted here -- and I consider those to be minor issues. All in all, I love the tent and think it looks magical especially all lit up at night. The fact that it reminds me of a medieval/historically inspired tent is just icing on the cake. Edited to add info on 12/3/2022: We lived in this tent for 14 months while remodeling our house, selling it, and building a new tiny house at a new location. I standby the things stated in this review. At our new property, it was high humidity (sometimes 99% humidity) and we struggled to keep the tent dry and mold free. A dehumidifier helped. As mentioned in the review, it was not quick to take it down and move it. But overall, I'm still incredibly satisfied with our purchase and would buy one again.
