I'll use to DIY a car awning with tarp and bungee cord, held up by these poles. These are High Quality poles, well thought out. circumference is like my finger. Strongly recommended.
I’ve set this up in 4 storms since I’ve purchased it. No matter how much adjusting I do to the setup, this tarp has yet to keep my hammock dry overnight. 4/4 times, the stakes have blown out of the ground, leaving my hammock to get soaked. This rain cover is very easy to set up, but I don’t know that I will ever trust it to take it camping, as it doesn’t appear to actually work in anything above a sprinkle.
I really like this tent. It sets up easily and comes with nice instructions. It has a nice rain fly that provides a double cover barrier that will keep the rain off and make camping with the family very nice.It comes with stakes for all concevable configurations. VERY roomy and ought to be just what you need to take the family on a great family camping trip!
They sent a tent that had a defect in it. It was a 1/2 hole in window mess Which they knew of because there was a tag on the tent say so. The product never should have of got out of their factory. It should have been quarantine in a non-conforming area.
++++ Updated Oct 2023+++++ New set of poles were sent to replace. It was a new set, still in the bag, and wrapped in plastic. Not the same way the others arrived. But I am happy with the customer service of Kelty and my brand new replacements poles for th tent. The tent was my first one-man tent., Tent preformed as expected and was light enough for thee trip. Happy with the purchase. It was two days before leaving on an 18 mile backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail. I opened the bag and tried to remove the set of poles, but I eneded up pulling out three poles individually because they were not attached. I dont believe the tension from the elastic connectors would have broken once placed in the bag. The poles are designed to be pulled and setup many times. This may be a quality control issue. The other set of poles were fine. I will update my review once Kelty responds to my inquiry on the issue.Tent poles were detached. Not what I expecteed from Kelty.
Granted, this tent is a cheap tent. But, I was really shocked at HOW cheap it is. I had one of these a long time ago as a kid, and it was a much better quality tent then, that it is now. First off, NONE of the seams are sealed. I set the tent up and crawled into it to check it out. Pin holes, pin holes, and MORE pin holes. If you purchase this tent, and take it out without doing anything to it, you WILL get wet if it rains!! For sure!! So I sealed all the seams with a good seam sealer. Next, is the body of the tent. Not so sure how waterproof it is, especially after seeing all of the pin holes in the seams. So, I sprayed it down very good with Scotchguard silicone spray. Then two of the poles are damaged. One looks like a water pipe after freezing damage, and the other looks like it was stomped on a few times. So, this tells me right off, that the QC team could care less! When I took the tent down, the small wire retainers that are in the ends of the poles to keep them from falling apart, pulled out of the top end of the middle pole section, and stayed lodged in the upper pole section. Not good. The side pull out tabs have NO inner reinforcement. So if you pull on the sides too hard, you could easily rip a hole in the side of the tent at the attachment points. should have been a piece of material sewn inside for additional strength. The stakes are the cheap and heavy steel stakes. The aluminum stakes would have been much better and lighter. All in all, IF you want to spend the extra time to waterproof this tent, it would be a good tent to use as a backpacking tent. Stansport really needs to up their game when it comes to this tent. I would have spent the extra $5 or $10 for the items that I have mentioned, and this tent would be easily be a 4 or 5 star tent! UPDATE: After seam sealing the inside and outside of the tent, this tent STILL leaks. The main points of leakage are at the 6 stake out points on the floor. The floor is made of tarp material, and seam sealer will not stay adhered to this material. I even cleaned the spots to seam seal very well with alcohol to remove any residual chemicals that might interfere with adhesion. I would NOT recommend this tent. The ONLY thing this tent is good for, is good weather camping or as a childs play tent in the yard. If you are looking for a backpacking tent, DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ONE!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. UPDATE: After seam sealing and waterproofing this tent I set it up in my yard and tested it during a rain storm. Nothing serious, just your average rain storm. This tent STILL leaked. It failed miserably! Since the return window has passed, I guess I will be sticking this in my "Yard Sale" pile or letting the kids use it as a play tent. DO NOT waste your money on this tent! Total garbage!
This is the 3rd one I've purchased- but the first for myself:) Used it last night in the cold drizzle. I was warm and dry:) I'm officially a PodPerson LOL! #WeatherPod
FIRST UPDATE 13th AUGUST 2018 OK so we made it to Biarritz, historic Bayonne and to the gorgeous beaches of the French Basque Country in South West France on the Atlantic coast. We amazed everyone with our Easthills Outdoors Easy Up XL. Everyone was staring at us, looking like the King and Queen of the beach in our palatial tent! I bought some 30cm (12in) U Spikes for £5.99 for 10 and these have anchored the tent against the Atlantic wind with no problem at all and no need for the guy lines. Yesterday, the wind was very strong and the tent had no problem in terms of strength against the wind and the spikes kept it firmly anchored. Unfortunately, what had been a simple dismantling in the previous days, turned into a little bit of a nightmare due to the strength of the winds which must have been around Force 6 on the Beaufort scale, judging by the size of the waves. Other people, didn't even have any shelters out, which mainly consist of either straight beach umbrellas or the umbrellas with the extended sides. These had long been packed away. However, our packing away was difficult due to the tent catching the wind. This of course, is not the manufacturer's fault! It's merely a cautionary tale, which I ended up just rolling the tent to the best of my ability. It would never have fitted in the bag, but the intention is when the weather changes back to beautiful sunshine I'll be able to re-pitch and eventually pack it properly. Here are my observations from 5 days of use on the beautiful French Basque coast: 1) It really is easy to pitch and set up quickly, especially if you invest in some 30cm (12in) U Stakes and a mallet. 2) Even with very bright sun, my wife still managed to discretely and invisibly change into her bikini in the zipped up tent. 3) The shade is brilliant from the tent....those who have complained must be talking about having the windows open! 4) The size is brilliant. We honestly have had not just looks, but long lingering stares (could be my wife in her bikini, but I reckon it's the tent!) 5) Ordinarily, this packs down easily and perfectly, if you follow the steps I mention below. 6) On the issue of unsticking the legs, I have found the solution thanks to another reviewer: you just need to gently pull the joint away from the leg, then the leg will bend easily. There's no need for any force or broken manicured nails (my wife's glad now!) 7) No-one in Biarritz or Bidart has a tent like this! Finally, once we've got round to it, I'll update the video with one from our beach trip. In the meantime check out some of the photos from Bidart in South Western France. July 2018 THIS IS A PRELIMINARY REVIEW. IT WILL BE UPDATED IN AUGUST. THESE ARE INITIAL (PRE-USE) THOUGHTS AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS. THE VIDEO SHOWS HOW TO PACK THE TENT PROPERLY TO FIT INTO THE BAG PROPERLY..... This is a preliminary review, as much as for our benefit, as for yours, before we do the full review when we take it to La Grande Plage in Biarritz in South West France between 8th-22nd August. PLEASE CHECK BACK IN AUGUST FOR A FULL BEACH REVIEW. This is our very first video review! The Easthills Outdoors Easy Up 4 Person Beach Tent Deluxe XL wasn't available for me to purchase in the UK at the time so I bought it from whatcampingtent.com in the USA and had it shipped. So why did I pay over the odds for it, £114.02 ($150) versus the bargain price of £84.90 ($112) on UK whatcampingtent.com? Quite simply when I watched other reviewers of this product versus the rival manufacturers' products I noticed some distinct differences. Firstly, this was bigger than rival offerings. Secondly, the vestibule/porch flap zips up completely. Rival offerings have a couple of friction clips which secure their vestibules leaving a very big gap around the sides and a 7.5 to 8cm (3 to 4inch) gap at the top, completely negating the point of "closing" the porch up. Lastly, there were thoughtful details, like sand pockets which use velcro to secure the sides allowing easy egress of the sand, and toggles, rather than Velcro like rival tents. The package arrived 2 days early from the US, which was a nice bonus, however, we've only got round to putting it up a day after it arrived. So if you watch the videos, you'll get a better idea of what it's really like. Some things I really like after our initial set up: 1) It fits in the locker under the floor of my Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake (not available in the USA) along with two golf umbrellas, two portable camp chairs and still leaves room for me to store things. Of course, this is as a result of having a very big Mercedes and having a tyre fit kit instead of a spare wheel. (The under floor locker is double the size of the new E Class Estate's)! 2) It's well made. Having inspected all the seams and stitching, it's been made with care and good quality management techniques. 3) It's really big (when I set it up in France, you'll see just how big it really is). 4) The zippers work on the inside and outside and they can be secured with a travel padlock. 5) The mechanism is excellent, and is really easy to put up. I noticed that other reviewers, both videographers and writers, have had problems getting the tent back in the bag. This, I'm afraid is clearly operator error. I took good care to see how it was packaged from the factory, to ensure that I knew how to fold it back tightly. Watch the video and you'll see what I mean. Basically, what you need to do is to: 1) Ensure the windows are all unrolled and undone. 2) Fold up the front porch so that the first part meets the first crease in the floor. This ensures that the "umbrella" mechanism is covered and the central part of the tent has evenly spaced material, making it easier to get into the bag. DON'T zip it up, or fold the porch into the tent completely. 3) Make sure all legs are bent (free of the joint mechanism). If some are stuck, push using your thumbs close to the joint. If you try doing it from the end of the leg, you'll apply leverage which will break the leg. 4) When you roll it, make sure you've covered the legs and mechanism, as per the video. 5) Keep the tension in the roll as you do it. 6) Secure the tent using the strap provided at the widest point. Some other features which I like are: the toggles which are used to roll the windows up, and secure them closed. I like the stretch "aerated" material holding the poles to the material. This gives a reduced aerodynamic pressure on the poles and the tent fabric. I like the window mesh which is small enough to allow good airflow which keeps the interior cool and again reduces aerodynamic pressure on the structure. When we pitched it for this review, we had forgotten a mallet, so couldn't use the pegs and guy-lines. The ground here in the UK is solid after having had high temperatures and no rain for 7 to 8 weeks. Therefore, we just stuck one 1 litre water bottle, each, in the two side pockets and believe it or not, the tape measure in the rear pocket. In truth, my wife and I can't wait to get this out to Biarritz, perhaps Easthills Outdoors will get some orders as a result of our pitching this in Biarritz. Biarritz is the centre for European surfing, and a luxury resort too, so there could be a good mix of potential clientele from surfers to the "glitterati". I'm certain we'll get plenty of admiring glances for our tent on the beach.
This canopy tent is a fantastic choice for outdoor gatherings! The fabric is durable and provides excellent shade. The structure is sturdy, and setting it up was straightforward. It held up well even in windy conditions. The design is spacious and perfect for picnics, camping, or backyard events. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a reliable and affordable outdoor shelter!
I had the opportunity to use the OneTigris Rock Fortress Hot Tent for an 8-day off-grid camping trip, covering diverse terrains from the mountains of Tennessee and Georgia to North Carolina's Outer Banks. Amidst my group's high-end rooftop tents and trailers, this tent stood out for its versatility and ease of use. Quick and Easy Setup: The tent's setup and takedown were remarkably quick, taking only about 10 minutes. This efficiency allowed me to be the first one ready at each campsite, which was particularly convenient. Winter Camping Ready: A standout feature of this tent is its suitability for winter camping. It includes a stove pipe hole, making it ideal for colder climates. I'm now exploring stove options to further enhance my winter camping experience with this tent. Weather Resilient: The tent proved its worth during high winds on the NC Outer Banks. I was able to stabilize it using sand on the snow flaps, showcasing its adaptability to various weather conditions. Mountain Top Camping Advantage: While camping on mountain tops, we faced the common issue of condensation. However, the tent's no-floor design was a savior, preventing any water pooling inside, a significant advantage over traditional tents. Lightweight and Portable: Despite its sturdy construction, the tent was surprisingly light and compact, making it easy to transport and ideal for various camping scenarios. Conclusion: The OneTigris Rock Fortress Hot Tent, with its 2-3 Person Half Dome Mesh Inner Tent, is an exceptional choice for campers who value quick setup, adaptability, and all-weather resilience. It has proven itself as a reliable shelter in diverse environments, from high-altitude mountain tops to windy coastal areas. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a versatile and efficient camping solution, especially for those interested in winter camping.
If you're shopping for this type of fabric you probably already know about the website that sells ripstop by the roll (or by the yard), and you know this is much cheaper, but you may also be concerned about quality, especially given the other review stating lack of waterproofness. I was too, but figured I'd give it a shot. Regarding weight. It should be 15.212m square, and at 48gsm weigh 586g. It actually weighs 735g which is 60.2gsm or 2.2oz-sm. Regarding size, the fabric is indeed 60" wide but has the selvedge still, so only 58ish inches are useable. Regarding waterproofness, as you can see from the high tech test device, I was able to simulate rough 100mmh2o. After 2.5 hours, there were a few drops that penetrated the fabric and the fabric had "wetted out" which I also tried to capture in the last photo. If I were using this to make a backpack cover, I'd feel confident that it could keep water out (this is my reason for purchase), but I would not use this as a ground sheet for a tent that I expected to use in the rain. I think this fabric would be great for a test project, and you could make something that lasted quite a while, giving enough time to really refine a design before making it out of more costly material. In any case, I'd recommend some DWR spray to increase repellant capacity. All in all, I believe that it's short term performance is reasonable, and that it is good for the weight and price (half that of a higher quality alternative) but can't give five stars because it doesn't meet the published manufacturer specs. As a final note, the performance I experienced matches the pergola review, so that's good for consistency!
The set up was super simple! All you do is assemble the (2) poles that hold the far end up with the trip wires to hold em upright. The bonnet slips over the rear end of your SUV (kinda like a hair net). I prefer to keep the hatch open so it holds the roof up high so you can stand underneath without your head touching the roof. At the bottom of the bonnet there is a ruffle attached to keep the bugs from flying under your vehicle. Be sure to hook behind your mud flap to help hold in place. We also used two spare cords to attach the top of the bonnet to our roof rack in case winds pick up. ** So the only flaw is where we attached the bonnet it wraps around under your car on your muffler/exhaust...I'd recommended waiting till it cools and don't run your vehicle while the tent is attached to your car other wise you might melt it. ***We used a propane fire pit, I highly recommend (don't use a wood fire under this canopy) *Another thing I recommend is to attach the side of the bug net to the ground and stretch it out on the sides as far as the middle zipper will let it. This is a safety precaution if you have a propane fire in it. We had a gust of win blow thru while we were distracted and almost melted it in the fire pit. Over all I recommend this tent/canopy if you are SUV camping or just a river day to keep the bugs off you and seek shade with the family. You can fit 4 people with chairs around the fire pit.
Solid and durable, sets up super fast, it’s a bit large on the bike but that’s the trade off for tye solid floor and pop up function. Have not had it in the rain but did soak it with Silicone waterproofing. Good purchase.
The tent was very easy to set up, my wife and I didn’t about 20 minutes. We did have two issues. We found that it was difficult to use the adjustments for the cords for the rain fly, we ended up tying them to an attachment point. Also the zippers on the entry door kept getting stuck in the storm flap of the zipper. Besides these two small issues we thought it was a great tent and it has survived so far an overnight camp out with three grandkids in the backyard.
I am very pleasantly surprised with high quality of this tent. We purchased it to serve as a sun shade for our toddler but we tested it on a windy WA beach instead. The wind was so strong that it took two people to open the tent but with sand in the three sand pockets it felt very sturdy (we didn’t use the anchors that came with the tent). It is super easy to assemble (a day before I opened it myself at home within a few sec), super easy to put back in the bag. Instruction is attached to the bag (that’s clever if you ever need it). The only thing I didn’t like at first was the fact that there is a floor, it has pros and cons, for us we wanted the kiddo to play with the sand inside the tent, but honestly this tent is huge and tall and it provides enough shade even if you sit next to it in a morning/afternoon. Besides you can probably cut or trim the floor; I just wasn’t ready to cut through a $100 tent just yet. If it had detachable floor (perhaps velcro on both sides half way inside), it would have been a perfect tent. It didn’t smell at all (unlike so many items sold nowadays that smell toxic). And the blue color is beautiful. I don’t trust items that have all 5-star reviews (as of 8/1/20) but I honestly am impressed and very happy with this purchase! If they start making it with a detachable floor I may purchase another one.
